Adria ends Moscow service after 29 years

NEWS FLASH

Adria Airways is operating its final flight between Ljubljana and Moscow this morning, marking an end to the airline's 29 years of operations between the two cities. Flight JP914 departed the Slovenian capital at 10.00 and is expected to return from Moscow's Sheremtyevo Airport just after five in the afternoon. The Slovenian carrier announced the abrupt suspension of the route two weeks ago. The airline has been maintaining daily flights between the two cities this winter season but was hit by strong competition when Russia's Aeroflot introduced the same service in late October. Adria conceded that since Aeroflot commenced flights to Ljubljana, its passenger numbers have declined, with Russian nationals preferring to fly with their own flag carrier. As of late March, Adria will conclude a codeshare agreement with its competitor on the route.

Adria Airways launched scheduled services between Ljubljana and Moscow in November 1990.
