Sarajevo Airport starts year with decline

NEWS FLASH

Sarajevo Airport saw its passenger numbers decline during the first month of the year. It welcomed 53.485 travellers through its doors, representing a decrease of 1.2% on 2018. The number of aircraft movements stood at 819, down 10.9%. During January, the airport was affected by adverse weather conditions. "Despite fierce competition, the airport is constantly working on attracting new airlines and is seeking to adapt to the individual and specific needs of each carrier. The airport’s management is undertaking ambitious infrastructure projects and other investments with the aim of further expanding its capacity and strengthening its leadership role on the Bosnian market", Sarajevo Airport said. This year, Aegean Airlines, Flynas and Tunsiair Express are set to launch new seasonal flights to Bosnia and Herzegovina's capital, while start-up FlyBosnia will also commence operations to Europe and the Middle East. A number of carriers will also boost their frequencies to Sarajevo, most notably Turkish Airlines, which will add an additional three weekly flight from Istanbul for a total of 21 weekly.
