Adria Airways to make announcement today
Adria Airways will hold a press conference today in Ljubljana at 11.00 CEST, where it will address the numerous problems which have engulfed the carrier. The airline has struggled to maintain its schedule with flights still being cancelled or merged with others, while discontent over unpaid compensation claims among passengers continues. International media have also picked up on the ongoing issues at the airline, warning of an imminent collapse. Adria previously noted its operations would stabilise from July. It has said it is close to securing a new strategic partner, which Slovenian media speculate is from Eastern Europe, and has held talks with concerned employees.
The Slovenian carrier has blamed much of its woes on the media, with its German owners deflecting any responsibility from their own actions. The airline previously said, "Adria Airways condemns the continuing negative reporting about the company and its business, and expresses concern over extremely harmful claims occurring in the media. The management, each employee and the owners are striving, not only for the existence of a Slovenian carrier, on a daily basis, but also for its stable development". It added, "Constant negative reporting continues to cause severe damage to the business and due to the lies in the media, Adria Airways is being forced to take legal action to protect its interests and the interest of its employees".
Adria recently announced it was changing its line maintenance provider from September 1. Adria Tehnika, which has so far provided services to the national carrier, will be replaced with an unspecified Scandinavian company. Adria Tehnika noted its services were too expensive for the airline. Furthermore, Adria Airways' management is set to engage in talks with staff over a new collective agreement, with the existing one expiring at the end of August. The Slovenian carrier also recently filed a complaint with relevant institutions within the European Union against Air Serbia over what it says is illegal state aid.
