Serbia - Montenegro air taxi travel soars amid ban

Travel by private jet between Serbia and Montenegro has reached record levels in previous months as scheduled flights between the two countries are yet to resume amid the coronavirus pandemic. Despite Serbian nationals being barred from entering Montenegro, they are allowed to do so if arriving by private jet at either Podgorica or Tivat airports. As a result, just last week, over thirty chartered private flights operated between Serbia and Montenegro carrying up to ten passengers each. Over 500.000 passengers travel on commercial flights between the two countries each year. There are growing indications commercial services between the two may be restored next month. Prior to the pandemic, Air Serbia and Montenegro Airlines planned to jointly operate 103 weekly flights between the two countries at the height of this summer season, with the Serbian carrier scheduling 60 weekly services, while its Montenegrin counterpart 43.
