Slovenia okays Iberia, Norwegian subsidy bids

NEWS FLASH

The Slovenian Aid Granting Commission has found that bids submitted by Iberia and Norwegian for the launch of flights from Madrid and Copenhagen, respectively, to Ljubljana, are valid and eligible for subsidies. The two carriers applied for the third round of financial assistance offered by the Slovenian government to improve the country’s connectivity. Iberia has since scheduled the launch of its Ljubljana service, with Norwegian yet to do so. The Ministry or Infrastructure now has a final say and must give its final approval for the funds to be granted to the two airlines. The state has allocated 16.8 million euros in subsidies divided over three years, or 5.6 million euros per year. The subsidies are designed to cover 50% of the airline’s airport costs in Slovenia. If funds are left over after being allocated to the two carriers, the state will launch a new public call.
