Dubrovnik Airport targets 5% growth in 2019

Dubrovnik Airport anticipates for its passenger numbers to increase some 5% this year following on from a record 2018 during which it handled 2.539.412 travellers. The figure represents an increase of 9.3% on the previous year or an additional 216.347 passengers. Dubrovnik Airport's General Manager, Frano Luetić, said, "This past year was demanding and turbulent but our goal of achieving 10% growth, which is above the global average, has been more or less attained. We expect that our net profit for 2018 will amount to 9.8 million euros. In 2019, we estimate passenger growth of 4.59%. The biggest increase in travellers is expected from the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Poland and the Czech Republic".

During the 2019 summer season some 65 to seventy airlines will maintain operations to the city. "After 28 years, Croatia will be linked with the United States thanks to American Airlines' service between Philadelphia and Dubrovnik. During the summer, Flydubai will continue to run flights from Dubai while the world's largest low cost airline, Ryanair, will launch services to our airport", Mr Luetić said. "A significant increase in traffic is expected from cities such as London, Paris, Amsterdam and Dublin", he added. The head of the Dubrovnik Tourist Board, Romana Vlašić, singled out American's new service as the highlight of the upcoming summer season. "This pilot project with American Airlines will grow over the coming years to include more American cities. We have already arranged joint marketing opportunities and cooperation. We are only too happy to help fill these flights and make sure that this new link is successful", Ms Vlašić said.

During 2019, Dubrovnik Airport will continue with its 225 million euro expansion project. Following the successful overhaul of the eastern and central segments of its runway, the airport will complete work on the third and final phase of the reconstruction by March 15. Other airside improvements will include the construction of two new rapid exit taxiways, the expansion of the apron, as well as the construction of new commercial and general aviation aprons, a small general aviation terminal, the development of aircraft maintenance and operation facilities, as well as a multi-storey car park with the capacity to handle 700 vehicles. The airport will also build a housing area with its own maintenance and operations premises for domestic operators and a new aviation fuel tank, including an underground pit system for fuel filling, two internal gas stations and solar systems. All construction work is scheduled for completion during next year.
