Adria to boost winter network
Adria Airways will significantly boost its winter operations during the 2019/2020 season when compared to last year. The Slovenian carrier will maintain similar frequencies as to those operated during the 2017/18 winter, two years ago. Additional flights will run from Ljubljana to Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Paris, Prague, Pristina, Skopje, Sofia, Tirana, Vienna and Zurich. Adria will add the most new flights to the Danish and Albanian capitals, with an extra four rotations. As a result, the two routes will be maintained eight and eleven times per week. An additional three weekly service will be added on services to Pristina and Skopje, both of which will operate ten times per week.
The Slovenian carrier will strengthen its presence in Vienna with two daily flights to operate during the winter, up from twelve weekly, while services to the French capital will also be boosted by an extra two weekly flights for a total of seven per week. Finally, Adria plans to add a weekly rotation to Sofia, for a total of five per week, while Frankfurt and Zurich will remain the airline’s most frequent routes, with 21 flights each, up one on last winter. The additional frequencies were enabled with the suspension of flights from Ljubljana to Moscow, Dusseldorf, Warsaw and Kiev last winter, as well as the closure of the carrier’s Paderborn base.
Commenting on future growth plans, Adria Airways' Managing Director, Sven Kukemelk, said in late May, "Today, Adria is clearly too small. In the long-run the airline must have forty to fifty aircraft in order to be sustainable. I wouldn't double my fleet within a two-year period, rather, it could be part of a ten-year plan. My goal now is to see the most sensible way to get this growth happening. Building a hub in Ljubljana is not easy - there are both pros and cons. Slovenia was and is the richest region in the former Yugoslavia, and there is already great demand for it in the area. We are in a relatively good position to connect the whole Balkans with Ljubljana".
