Construction of new Belgrade control tower to commence

NEWS FLASH

The construction of Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport’s new control tower will commence during the first quarter of 2020 after the Serbia and Montenegro Air Traffic Services Agency (SMATSA) signed a contract with a consortium of local companies to carry out work on the project. Valued at 17.5 million euros, it involves a new 75-metre, four-level, control tower located next to the existing air traffic control centre, opened in 2010. A two-level flight control centre will also be built at the base of the tower and linked to the air traffic control centre. Construction is expected to commence after the New Year and Christmas holidays, with work to be completed within a year. "The facility will be built over an area of 7.500 square metres. It will be a smart and energy-efficient building with state-of-the-art equipment, so that it can effectively handle the growing traffic at Nikola Tesla Airport", the head of the SMATSA, Predrag Jovanović, said. The existing control tower at Belgrade Airport was built in 1962.
