Ohrid Airport plans 2020 expansion

NEWS FLASH

The General Manager of operator TAV Macedonia, Alper Ersoy, has announced that Ohrid Airport will be expanded in 2020. Construction will begin next year with the airport’s capacity to be doubled to 600.000 passengers on an annual basis. It comes following record results this year. During the January - November period, Ohrid Airport welcomed 296.870 travellers through its doors, an increase of 69.8% on the same period in 2018. There were a total of 2.469 aircraft movements, up 66.7%. The growth has been fuelled by Wizz Air, which introduced several new routes to the city this year. “This airport, which offered only a few destinations during the summer of 2009, now serves a total of 22 points. Eight operate throughout the year - Zurich, Basel, London, Memmingen, Milan, Vienna, Dortmund and Malmo - while fourteen are seasonal between April and October - Adana, Amsterdam, Bergamo, Brussels, Dusseldorf Eindhoven, Friedrichshafen, Istanbul, Katowice, Maastricht, Stuttgart, Tallinn, Tel Aviv and Warsaw. We are working on transforming Ohrid Airport into a regional hub that will serve not only Macedonian passengers but also travellers from neighbouring countries. These efforts are being coordinated with the government, the Ministry for Transport and Communications, airlines and municipalities”, Mr Ersoy said.
