Lufthansa resuming three EX-YU routes in June

Lufthansa will resume flights to just three cities in Croatia and Slovenia from June 15, when it plans to significantly expand its operations to include additional destinations from its hub in Frankfurt. The German carrier will restore six weekly services to Ljubljana starting June 15, and a one weekly flight to Dubrovnik and Pula from June 20. At this point, services to Belgrade, Sarajevo, Tivat, Zagreb and Zadar are not planned for next month. Furthermore, Lufthansa will not be restoring its operations from Munich to any point in the former Yugoslavia during the month of June. Instead, the German airline will focus on summer tourist destinations.

Starting June 15, Lufthansa will be resuming around twenty German and European destinations from Frankfurt and as many as 34 from Munich, thus supplementing the airline's flight schedule, which has been growing steadily for a few weeks. Lufthansa's flight schedule will grow from some 500 to almost 900 weekly connections at its Frankfurt and Munich hubs during the course of June. The carrier said it is responding to the growing interest of customers as travel restrictions and entry rules in various countries have gradually been relaxed. This includes the German government's planned lifting of travel advisories and restrictions for 31 European countries from mid-June. Among those are European Union member states, as well as the United Kingdom, Norway, Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

Lufthansa ranks among the busiest carriers in all the markets it serves in the former Yugoslavia and its absence will significantly reduce connectivity. However, other Lufthansa Group member carriers will be resuming operations to various cities in the region over the coming month. These include Austrian restarting services to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia, Swiss returning to the Serbian market, Brussels Airlines to Croatia and Slovenia and Eurowings recommencing flights to Bosnia and Croatia. As a result, the Group will be offering over 2.000 weekly frequencies and connections to more than 130 destinations worldwide.
