VINCI unveils future plans for Belgrade Airport

Airport operator VINCI has unveiled a finalised design for Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport’s ongoing expansion, which is scheduled for completion within three years. In a statement, the operator said, “VINCI Airports continues to make progress on its plan to open new routes, improve passenger flows, promote Serbian tourism and implement its environmental policy. In tandem with VINCI Construction Grands Projets, we kicked off the airport’s first construction project at the end of 2019. With a total investment of 730 million euros over the next 25 years, we will carry out renovations to increase airport capacity and guarantee high quality service rivalling the best airports in the world. Our aim is to grow passenger numbers from six million to fifteen million by 2043”. It added, “Together with construction partner, VINCI Terna Construction JV and their subcontractors, Belgrade Airport has developed a specific plan to mitigate the impacts of the pandemic on the works dynamic and projected deadlines”.

Construction work is currently ongoing on the expansion of the existing Terminal 2 building (C Pier). As EX-YU Aviation News understands, the project is expected to be completed in September of next year. Furthermore, the upgrade of the aprons and the construction of bus gates at Terminal 1 are also in progress, while preparatory work on the construction of the new inserted runway began several days ago. In addition to the finalised exterior design of the expanded terminal released by VINCI, subcontractor Energoprojekt has unveiled several visuals of the interior. Next stages of the project will have a strong eco-friendly focus in order to reduce environmental impact in terms of CO2, water and waste. A new power plant will be built to produce heat and electricity, which will shift from heavy fuels to more environmentally friendly energy sources and reduce emissions. The plan also includes a solar power plant, as well as solid waste and wastewater treatment plants.

These include terminal expansion, inserted runway and additional taxiways construction, additional aircraft parking positions, a new de- icing pad, additional car parking spaces, as well as new access roads. Thanks to the planned capacity upgrades, the airport, which last year served around 6.2 million passengers, will be able to handle projected fifteen million passengers at the end of the concession period. Our aim is to significantly improve the level of service, comfort and variety of commercial offers at Belgrade's Nikola Tesla Airport”.
