Skopje Airport handles over one million passengers

NEWS FLASH

Skopje Airport welcomed 1.145.844 passengers between January and December, representing a decrease of 47.5% compared to the same period in the pre-pandemic 2019. Commenting on the airport’s performance, the General Manager of operator TAV Macedonia, Metin Batak, said, “This year we saw the first solid signs of passenger traffic recovery at Skopje and Ohrid airports, following the negative impact Covid-19 had on the aviation sector since the start of the pandemic in 2020. The positive travel trends, fed by passengers’ hunger for air travel and their enthusiasm to get back to normal, was especially felt in the summer months of 2021 when EU travel restrictions for Macedonian passport holders were temporarily lifted. Still, there are a lot of challenges ahead of us, because air traffic continues to be highly dependent on travel restrictions being implemented by different countries, while airports, passengers and airlines try to adapt to the frequent rule changes based on different national health policies”. Skopje Airport will finish the year as the fifth busiest in the former Yugoslavia behind Belgrade, Pristina, Split and Zagreb.
