Ukraine’s SkyUp moves jet to Belgrade

NEWS FLASH

Ukrainian carrier SkyUp Airlines has moved one of its Boeing 737-800 aircraft to Belgrade Airport for interim storage after it was unable to enter Ukrainian airspace mid-flight earlier this week. It came following a warning from the jet’s Irish owner that the aircraft no longer had insurance cover due to a threat of conflict with Russia. The aircraft in question, registered UR-SQO, was en route to Kiev from Funchal in Portugal when it was forced to divert to Chisinau. “We are doing everything possible to continue to operate flights on a regular basis, but we cannot ignore the demands of lessors”, SkyUp said in a statement. The low cost carrier’s other aircraft continue to maintain operations out of Ukraine. Earlier this week, Ukraine International Airlines also stored two of its aircraft in Belgrade over the same issue.
