LOT tipped for EX-YU expansion
LOT Polish Airlines is expected to announce further expansion in the former Yugoslavia in the coming days as the carrier continues to maintain a strong presence in the region. During the upcoming summer season, the airline currently plans to operate up to eleven weekly flights from its base in Warsaw to Zagreb, nine weekly to Belgrade, as well as six weekly rotations to Ljubljana, Skopje and Podgorica. In addition, the carrier will run services from the Polish capital to the Croatian coast, which includes six weekly flights to Dubrovnik, three weekly to Split and one weekly rotation to Zadar. Although LOT previously served Rijeka as well, flights are yet to be scheduled for the coming summer.
LOT has so far reinstated its entire network in the former Yugoslavia, with exception to Skopje. Due to a planned runway overhaul, which is due to commence on March 28, the airport will be closed for traffic every day from 09.00 until 17.30 until May 16. The Polish carrier initially planned to shift operations from the Macedonian capital to Ohrid during this period, however, it has now decided not to do so and will instead reinstate operations to Skopje on May 17. Although overall frequencies to the region are still below pre-pandemic levels, they represent an improvement on last summer.
This summer LOT will also commence charter flights between Katowice and Mostar on behalf of the Rego-Bis tour operator. The Mostar charters will cater for religious pilgrims visiting the Medjugorje sight and will commence in June. Local authorities in Mostar concluded a three-year agreement with the tour operator, which foresees LOT as the operating carrier for its entire duration.
