Long haul flights return to Zagreb

NEWS FLASH

Canada’s Air Transat restored seasonal operations between Toronto and Zagreb over the weekend, marking the resumption of flights both between the two cities and long haul services to the Croatian capital after over two years. Air Transat will initially maintain one weekly rotation between the two, before increasing to two weekly from June 14 until the end of the summer season. It is utilising its 332-seat Airbus A330-200 aircraft on the route. It faces no direct competition after Air Canada cancelled plans to launch operations between the two cities this summer as a replacement for its leisure operator Air Canada Rouge, which has ended all long haul flights. Commenting on Air Transat’s return, the General Manager of Zagreb Airport, Huseyin Bahadir Bedir, said, “The return of Air Transat and the reconnection of Toronto and Zagreb is another step towards the recovery of traffic. Air Transat was the first airline to establish a transatlantic bridge between Croatia and Canada in 2016, therefore, we are even more pleased with its return". The Canadian Ambassador to Croatia, Alan Bowman, added, “I am delighted that Air Transat has reintroduced direct flights between Canada and Croatia. I believe that these flights will increase the number of tourists between our two countries, but also open doors for new business opportunities ". Air Transat recently concluded a codeshare with WestJet, enabling the latter to place its designator code and flight numbers onto the Zagreb route.
