Ryanair extends Zagreb service reduction into July

Ryanair will be extending the reduction of planned frequencies and the temporary suspension of several destinations out of its Zagreb base until mid-July. The network cutbacks, which initially began in May, were due to conclude at the end of June. However, the airline has now extended the suspension of its Basel, Sofia and Bridnisi service until July 18. Flights to Sandefjord, Malaga and Paphos will run only once per week until mid-July, while frequency cuts have also been extended for Bergamo, Charleroi, Hahn, Gothenburg, Malmo, Malta, Memmingen and Weeze. Services to Corfu, which were to be inaugurated in June, have been pushed back until early July and reduced to just one flight per week.

Ryanair has reduced its Zagreb capacity by 35.000 seats this June. The latest development is the fifth month since the start of the year that Ryanair has either temporarily suspended or reduced its number of flights out of Zagreb. In January and February, sixteen of Ryanair’s routes from the Croatian capital were temporarily suspended due to reduced demand resulting from a resurgence in the coronavirus pandemic. The airline has provided no explanation for its latest decision. Staffing issues and a lack of equipment are believed to be partially to blame. The airline currently has two aircraft based in the Croatian capital, instead of three as initially planned.

Ryanair is also extending its frequency reductions and delaying the launch of a select numbers of new routes at its seasonal Zadar base. New services to Helsinki, Turin and Bournemouth, which had already been delayed until the start of June, will now be pushed back by another two weeks, when a third aircraft will be stationed in the coastal city. Despite the delays, this summer will be Ryanair’s busiest in Zadar with the budget carrier to operate 120 flights to 46 destinations, six of which are brand new. The inaugural flights to Bordeaux, Nuremberg and Sofia, which were also delayed earlier this year until early June will go ahead as planned this week.
