President: Belgrade - Baku service to launch in 2023
NEWS FLASH
Flights between Belgrade and Baku will be introduced by the end of 2023 according to Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vučić. Speaking in the Azeri capital last week, Mr Vučić noted, “You need three hours and ten minutes [from Belgrade] to Baku, to visit the beautiful city on the Caspian Sea. This is excellent for Serbian tourists and businesspeople but also Azeri businessmen to visit Serbia. Therefore, after Chicago, another important route will be introduced in 2023”. Air Serbia has previously said it is considering the Caucasus region for further expansion. “We are looking at countries like Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia, for which Belgrade would be a good option for connecting to Europe”, Air Serbia’s CEO, Jiri Marek, said this summer. There have been ongoing talks to establish flights between Serbia and Azerbaijan for almost a decade. Serbia plans to start importing natural gas and electricity from Azerbaijan next year.
