Maribor Airport’s fate to be decided

The fate of Maribor Edvard Rusjan Airport in Slovenia is expected to be known shortly as the Slovenian Ministry for Infrastructure is set to announce the outcome of talks with SIDrone aviation school, which was the only entity to submit a bid for the airport’s concession. Three rounds of negotiations have taken place with SiDrone, The newly founded company has roots in aviation. “Our vision is the future of aviation in unmanned aircraft - drones”, the company previously said. Its plans for Maribor Airport have not been made public. Maribor Airport has no commercial flights and is primarily used for sport charters and pilot training. During the January - August period, it handled 3.340 passengers. This is the second time the government has attempted to give Maribor Airport up for concession, with the first ending in lawsuits after he Chinese operator SHS Aviation unilaterally pulled out two years into its fifteen-year management agreement in 2019.
