Airlines outline Ljubljana service resumption


Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport reopened for commercial air traffic on May 12, however, flights are yet to be reintroduced to the Slovenian capital. Carriers are beginning to schedule their service resumption to the airport with Brussels Airlines becoming the latest to confirm its return. The Belgian carrier will reintroduce flights to Ljubljana on June 29 with a three weekly service. Prior to that, Air Serbia will restart its operations to Slovenia on May 29, while Air France will return on June 24, with two weekly flights. Low cost carrier Wizz Air has scheduled its service resumption from Charleroi to Ljubljana for June 16 with flights to be maintained three times per week.

Lufthansa is expected to reinstate its operations to the Slovenian capital in the second half of June. The airline has said it will outline its network for June 15 onwards at the end of the week. Meanwhile, Slovenia’s busiest carrier, easyJet, plans to restore its flights from London Gatwick and Stansted on July 1. The airline has cancelled its intention on launching services from Luton Airport to Ljubljana, while its flights from Berlin are currently scheduled to resume at the start of the of the 2020/2021 winter season on October 25. British Airways has delayed the resumption of its seasonal operations from London Heathrow. Services, which were initially to commence on May 22, will now restart on July 1.

Finnair has suspended its seasonal flights between Helsinki and Ljubljana for the whole of 2020. Services to the Slovenian capital are now scheduled to resume on March 29, 2021. Initially, prior to the coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic, the airline planned to increase operations to Ljubljana from five weekly to daily this summer. Other carriers, which are now starting to rebuild their networks, are yet to officially confirm the date of their return to Ljubljana. Operator Fraport Slovenija said last week that a number of airlines are yet to respond to their queries regarding their service resumption. Prior to the onset of the coronavirus, this year’s summer season was to see Ljubljana being served by seventeen airlines from 22 cities in fifteen countries.
